How do I choose the correct RealPlayer proxy server settings?

For best results playing audio and video with RealPlayer, you'll want to make sure that RealPlayer's proxy settings are set up properly. The most common solution is to adjust your proxy settings to No proxy.

Warning: Incorrectly setting a proxy will prohibit Internet connection. Do not attempt this without the permission of your network administrator.

3. In the Category pane under Connection, click Proxy.

2. Click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left and select Preferences. The Preferences box opens.

Which proxy setting should I choose?

In RealPlayer, you can change your Streaming Proxy Settings to any of the following:

Use system Internet Connection proxy settings: This is the default setting, which uses your system's proxy settings. This is the best choice for most people.

No proxy: RealPlayer ignores system proxy information. If you do not want to have RealPlayer use the proxy information specified in the system's proxy settings, you should use this option.

NOTE: Some security software uses proxy information to filter pop-up ads and content that may be inappropriate for children. This method of filtering can prevent RealPlayer from properly connecting to the Internet. If you experience consistent connection problems through RealPlayer including "page cannot be displayed" and "service unavailable," try setting the application to No Proxy.

Automatic configuration: Uses the same settings you have in Internet Explorer.

Use proxy (manually set proxy address and port): RealPlayer uses this information over any other system settings. Proxy address and port are unique to your network and can only be obtained from your Network Administrator. Use this option if you need your application to connect through a specific proxy server port.
