Realdownloader is very slow lately
For the last few weeks Realdownloader has been increasingly slowed down... instead of getting near 10Mbps as I have always enjoyed, more and more files are downloading at around 0.2 to 0.4 Mbps and they take ages to finalize.
For the last few days every file downloads at this rate, whether it is at 720p or the 'faster download' option
I have updated yesterday and the VideoDL.exe version is 2021.06.06.0
A sample URL is https://youtu.be/TEL1WuGrQ4U?list=OLAK5uy_kqSmS3B42-amVGU_OqdESBh1lZm-qmRTM
Any ideas?
Thankyou

We have good news! Thank you for waiting patiently while we worked on fixing the slow download speeds. We updated RealDownloader so your downloads are faster. To update your RealDownloader, please follow these steps.
1. Using Chrome, Firefox or Edge, go to YouTube.com and play any video and click the Downloader button. (This action will still show slow download speeds)
2. Close all Windows
3. Restart your PC (This will update your Downloader in the backend)Now try your video. If the issue persists, please let us know.

Happens to me too, Mate! It has happened for the past several days, and I am Jacked, of this who thing.
I am at the point of frustration.
This I think, and Real Player, could really be mad at me from this point on, is:
It is a Algorythem thats is employed to slow things down, to the point of frustration, that will get you to go Premium.
Used to you could just upgrade the Real Downloader, for a 1 time charge, which my bank reported to me, as a Recurring Charge. I unsubscribed.
Now, You have to upgrade to Premuim, just to get faster downloads, which they throttle up, after, you Pay, for Premium.
I am sure it is just to get you to purchase premium.
Make you decision, then, pay for premium, and get the faster downloads, or not and go to another Video downloader.
I suggest VLC the free downloader. It's like having a dvr, you watch whilst you record. Same speed as you watching.
It's you decision, this is WHAT IS HAPPENING, dont look for waorkarounds, you wont get them.
Real Player has officially HIT ROCK BOTTOM.

OMG, that sounds rather underhand if that's what is going on. Shame you (and I) are having such a negative experience with Realdownloader lately. I really hope it's something else but if not then thanks for the hypothesis.

Our engineering team is investigating the slow download speeds. We will email you when we have an update. Apologize for the inconvenience.

This has been happening to me also. I was searching for a solution when I saw your post. Once in a great while I will get a fast download. Somewhere around 1 out of 20, but most of the downloads are extremely slow. What is frustrating is the fact that I am a Premium member. If I remember correctly the last update said I would get even faster downloads with the new update. I can tell you that is not happening. I am about ready to cancel my subscription and just use the free version. Right now, I am paying for a whole lot of nothing.
Thanks for your post and letting me vent.

Thankyou Real CS... I look forward to hearing any input or update you and your team can offer, thanks for getting in touch. Regards.

Todd - We will send you an email as well as soon as we have an update.

Todd, I hear you. Hopefully there'll be a nice little tweak and we can go back to enjoying what we've had in the past (and it's healthy to vent once in a while so you have at it😉).
Over the last... probably 15 years or so, I have also been a paying member (having used Realplayer for over 20 years) and the Downloader has, from time to time, had issues. But they were cleared up in time with updates and to be fair for the last 2 or 3 of years the Downloader has been superb, hats off to their team. I hope it'll be a minor fix.

Yes - My fully registered and paid for RealDownloader 18 has recently slowed to a crawl, as well! Typical download speeds of 40-50 mbps are now no better than 0.64 mbps! My IPS speed is typically better than 70 mbps. Hope this is fixed soon!

Good Morning Mark,
Thanks for your original post. Looks like you got the ball rolling. I agree with you, Realplayer overall has been pretty good. I think I've been using it for over 15 years, and you are right. It's had it issues, but eventually they have been resolved.

Morning Todd,
Yes, I hope they'll get to grips with this issue soon enough... sorry to hear you've also had issues.
On a note of providing more info for the Realplayer team I have been running a fair few tests over the weekend on performance and I've noticed that if I download a file that is taking forever (around 0.3 Mbps) but cancel it and repeat the download, trying several times and waiting a few minutes between attempts (sometimes downloading other files inbetween),... it sometimes downloads quickly at the 'normal' rate!... this is very rare but it has happened and I don't know what to make of it.
The most recent time it happened was testing a download from Youtube of an album I already own https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In39HuLl-CM ... three attempts at ~0.2 - 0.33 Mbps that I gave up halfway through and the fourth attempt slid through at over 11 Mbps and finalized in mere moments... weird.

The other thing I've noticed is occaisonally a file will register a filesize of, say, 3 MB and be downloading at 0.2 Mbps and right at the end it hangs for a few seconds then the filesize jumps to around 8 or 9 Mb and the rate increases to 2.7 Mbps just as it's finalizing. Don't know what to make of that either.

So my RealConverter has just stopped being able to convert any newly downloaded .mp4 into an .mp3... no joke. It was fine this afternoon but I've just spent the last hour trying to get it (and a brand new re-installed version) to accept ANY new .mp4's... it just gives me the 'red-line-of-unsuccessful'. This has to be coincidence, right???
EDIT... I think I found a bug. In Windows 10 I had created a folder then ctrl+dragged it to get several copies. After I renamed my files I dragged them into the newly created folders... where they were unable to be converted. I had to create another folder away from the first lot, copy the files into the new folder so they would convert, then drag them back to the original folders...did copying newly created folders somehow throw a wrench into how Realplayer Converter analyzes files? I've never run into this before.
I think something's going on so I am eagerly awaiting some reply... any reply really... that or friend 'Real CS' can give us (I know it's been only 3 days and it has been the weekend but anything'd be nice).
Regards, Mark

I'm also experiencing the same crawling download speeds from my paid version where I used to get blazing download rates of 200-300Mb/s. Now it barely gets to 1 Mb/s.

I went on Facebook and attempted to download a video from there. The video downloaded normally with my typical 200-300Mbs download speed. I tried a few others with no problem. It seems the problem exists only when trying to download a YouTube video. I hope this helps

Thanks Brian... I wonder if that'll help the Realplayer team work out another solution... the problems over the years have tended to be YouTube-specific. Nice to hear your input, adds a lot of weight to getting this sorted.

I am having the same problems. It only seems to be on YouTube. It does not happen on other sites I use the Real Downloader on.

they wanted me to upgrade. it's bullshit. it does not speed up. it.s garbage. i keep exiting out of it that sometimes works. plus NO one to talk about this problem. if you want my opinion DON.T UPGRADE IT'S BULLSHIT

I've been having the same issue, mostly on YouTube. I've also noticed something else. When I attempt to use the Firefox add-on downloader, which usually works just as good as Real Downloader most of the time, all of the YouTube videos are now showing up as MKV files, even older videos. MKV is actually a file container type, and they are known to take FOREVER downloading and aggregating, sometimes as long as 48 hours for one 40 minute video. So keep in mind, this could be something that YouTube is deliberately doing, either to stop the free downloading of their content, or it's just the unexpected result of their upgrading of video formats.

Interesting about your MKV thing Lawrence... I've not run into anything other than .MP4 using Firefox (my copy of OBS uses them but that's about it) but I tend to only use Real for downloading. I'm sure you're correct about YouTube doing stuff behind their curtain but as MP4 is also a container type and more popular I''ve no idea if Youtube is using MKVs (if memory serves they can't be uploaded to Youtube) although their ability to store subtitle tracks and extra audio may be an advantage for them...? Speaking for myself, my downloads have never been MKV.
I hope the Real team can repeat their workarounds, whatever's going on... they always do. I just hope it doesn't take too long.

This issue is not just related to Youtube. It is an issue effecting all down loads that I have attempted. If you take one and cancel it ten or twenty times it might actually download at a blazing speed of less than 10Mbps. Upgrading to premium gave nothing in return as far as download speeds. The only upgrade I see is the ability to download multiple files at a few Kbps at best.

Thanks Mikel... yep, the issue is with downloading in general and not just Youtube (I didn't make it clear enough in my first post... when I said 'all downloads' I wasn't clear that this meant other sites too)... although I have noticed that Youtube is affected the most. It's weird about the re-starting issue we've both run across but 'nice' to know it's not just me talking out of my....... ;)

i payed to upgrade and im getting 0.36mbps download speeds..... i had faster speeds before i payed :(

Hey All, It seems I have the same problem. I remember awhile back Youtube slowed downloads (because of free downloadings). I hope they will get back to normal once again. I understand business is business but really aren't we paying enough(computer, isp, wifi, install, etc.) If there is a better or as good downloader(free) let us know. I'm gonna try VLC as someone mentioned. It's just you get used to using a format for so long then because some board member of a company wants yet another boat... O Well. Thanks Mark for your postings

Very frustrating.....0.39 download speed on high-speed internet conection

Has this been resolved yet or does Realplayer need a nudge like a bunch of people uninstalling the program to fix this?

We have identified the slow download speeds. Our engineering team is looking into it. Unfortunately, we don't have a workaround at this time. We have added your email address to the list of affected users and we will email you as soon as the issue is identified & resolved.

I have seen my download speeds go way down as well. Right now I'm looking at speeds of 0.44 Mbps. Let me know when there is a fix or an update for this.

Ok... we've had an update from Real CS (which is at the top of the post if people missed it) so it looks like we're going to have to wait a while longer for a fix now they've identified there is a problem. Thanks Real CS for letting us all know.
Sorry to hear there are now more of us with this problem, especially after paying for upgrades (Diva, Guy (you're welcome sir), Mario, Andrew and Kerry... (Kerry, I would suggest you check back here once in a while to see if there has been any resolution if the Real support team don't e-mail you, as there isn't any way I can contact you about any fix)).
Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer,
Regards, Mark

I guess it's not just me. I purchased the premium version and it's still unbelievably slow.
