Videos Downloaded Using the Tool Are Pixelated

Hello,

I often download YouTube videos using the "Download This Video" drop-down button/tool that appears at the top of my computer screen. The videos download in WebM format (.webm). When I open them, the video is completely pixelated; you can't see a thing. The audio works fine. Why is this and what can I do to fix it? I'm just discovering the issue and I'm overwhelmed at the thought that thousands of files are messed up. Please help.

  The same happened to me for .flv files that were previously downloaded.  they played fine with the old version, but with the new version have lost most of my library
