Suddenly unable to find or use RealPlayer Plus on laptop
Please can you help. I have used RealPlayer for many years and have always loved it. I use it a lot. In February I paid for the Plus version. I notice today my laptop (with windows 10) will not open any of my music as think it wants me to use Groove Music. I do not want to! I am not able to alter my default player to RealPlayer because it is not coming up as available. I have definitely not uninstalled it. Obviously, I can now not access my extensive audio and video library in RealPlayer. It appears my RP app has disappeared and the icon on my desktop has changed appearance and nothing happens when I select it.
I have just managed to locate an EXE file in my downloads from February so I ran it and it appeared to work, it even informed me the RP installation was successful but I cannot find it anywhere, Incidentally, the usual RP icon on my desktop (which earlier today appeared to look odd) happened to disappear completely when I started installing today's download from the EXE file. I thought this was a good sign but no icon has replaced it so am no further forward..
Am I correct thinking this is something forced upon me by Microsoft?
Please is there anyway I can reinstate my RealPlayer Plus?

From your description, it appears that the installation went faulty. Not sure what might have caused it as there are many reasons this could happen.
To resolve your issue, please follow these steps.
1. Go to Control Panel and uninstall RealPlayer.
2. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed and download and run the installer.
3. Once the Fixit program opens, click Next.
4. Select Uninstalling.
5. You will see a list of programs installed. Scroll down and look for "Video Downloader". Select that and click Next and click on "Yes, try uninstall". This will remove the application.
6. Run the Fixit program once again. (You will need to run this program a few times)
7. Follow steps 4 and remove the following programs (in the said order)
a. RealUpdgrade 1.1
b. RealDownloader
c. RealDownloader
Note: You have to run Fixit each time you want to uninstall these applications.
8. Delete Real & RealNetworks folders from
a. C:\Program Files (x86)
b. C:\Programdata
c. C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming
d. C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\LocalOnce you have uninstalled all of them and deleted the folders, restart your computer. Download RealPlayer from www.real.com. Ideally, this should install properly.
Please do let us know how it goes.
Please note: If you have any playlists created, you will have to recreate them.

Thank you for the response below. I did attempt to do as advised but sadly, some of it was not relevant as there was no sign of RealPlayer in my control panel so I could not uninstall it. It had already gone. I tried using the fix in option 2 but again none of it applied to my laptop.
I did have success by going to no. 8 where I found some Real folders as stated in 8a,b,c and d and I duly deleted them. Puzzled why I could not find these when I searched my computer search function but hey ho! As advised I then restarted my computer and successfully downloaded RealPlayer again. All is wonderful again.
