Can't play SMIL format on my Mac.  I noted in an older comment that you suggested to install a codec pack, but that was for Windows.  Do you have a similar recommendation for Mac's?

  SMIL files are not audio or video formats.Codecs are used only to play audio/video files. 

  SMIL stands for Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language. Files that contain the .smil file extension are written in the XML language and they are very similar to HTML pages. If this SMIL file is broken, no player can play them.
