Unable to play videos

I just upgraded my Real Player application (higher resolution and  privacy mode) and now I can't play MP4 videos.  In fact, when I click on an MP4 file the applications hangsup and I have to use the Task Manager to terminate it.  The same files run on the Windows default player.  Please help.
