So many Problems with Realplayer with latest update
Since the last update a few weeks ago, Real Player has been almost impossible to use. The only thing it will burn to DVD is MKV videos (unless they are in 480p then it burns Slanted and in Black and White). Anything downloaded from You Tube since the update will cause Real Player to completely shut and vanish about 10 seconds into the burn. The time counter stops after about 5 seconds, then the little spinning curser appears for a few seconds then Real Player shuts and vanishes.
I have been experimenting to try to get around this. Anything in 480p tends to burn to DVD slanted and in Black and White which is annoying, unwatchable, wasted Discs, and has done so for several years despite me contacting Real Player in the past to please fix this, which never did get fixed and is still a big problem.
In the past I would convert these 480p files to WMV using Real Player Converter and then they would burn happily. Anything converted to WMV since the update puts up the error message- Runtime error: use of invalid editor "Stream::StreamFileEditorBase" and the burn stops dead. This is Real Players OWN SOFTWARE that Real Player does not like!!
So I experimented further. If you drag your You Tube MP4 clip from your Real Player Library to the Converter in VLC MEDIA PLAYER (the one with the traffic cone logo) click on Media then select Convert/save and convert it to 'video for MPEG4 720p TV/device' , then when the convert is completed (and it does take time to convert) drag the new converted version back to Real Player and it will now burn to DVD without issue. (If you convert it to regular MP4 -Video-H.264 + MP3(MP4) in VLC and the video was in 480p then it will burn to DVD slanted and in Black and White, so it needs to be upgraded to the 720p convert, but a 20 minute clip will actually take 20 minutes to convert)
Something else which is interesting. I downloaded a You tube video - a TV talk show Interview clip- 4 months ago, which is still in my Real Player Library. Today I downloaded the exact same You Tube clip and retitled it with the word NEW on the end so I knew the difference between the 2 identical videos.
Here's the punch line - The 4 month old video I downloaded BEFORE the Real Player update burns to DVD without any problem. However the NEW exact same video downloaded AFTER the update caused Real player to stop dead and vanish 10 seconds in as I mentioned at the start of this post.
So, there is a fault with Real Downloader, and a fault with the converter, and 480p MP4 and MKV videos still burn slanted and in Black and White.
I hope this information helps you solve these problems.
Thanks
Phil
