Why won't Crossfade work with all file formats?

The Crossfade option will work for RA, MP3, AAC (M4A) and WAV files.

Note: Crossfade will not work with video files.

Crossfade was initially designed as a premium feature for proprietary file formats like RealAudio and RealAudio Lossless. A few other common formats were added later.
