Playing videos

My new Realplayer has dutifly loaded all my video files into my library, but will only play about 10% of them (those marked MVI or mp4)  None of those in ts or AVI format will play.  "General Error has occurred". Those in mpg play, but there is no sound.   Am I doing something wrong?

  Installing the K-Lite codec pack often helps to fix issues related to playback. You can install it from the link below:

  http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

  After installing the codec, restart your computer and try playing the videos again.
