Realplayer Does Not Play RAX Files
Hi All,
I've had RAX audio files that I bought through an older version of realplayer years ago and didn't get to play them because the realplayer company had gone through some changes in their product. I just downloaded the latest free version and it still won't play them. When I try to open a RAX file, realplayer is telling me
"The software update 'component unavailable' could not be verified as authentic.
Please check your computer's clock to ensure the time and date are set correctly and try your download again.
Error code: RUP_BAD"
Any thoughts on this? Not that I think my computer's clock has much to do with it, it's set perfectly.
Thanks.
Will

RealPlayer doesn't support playback of DRM-protected files. DRM stands for "digital rights management" and is a method of restricting copy and playback of files. Examples of DRM-protected files include .rax, .rms, and .rvx files.
As of October 31, 2011, Rhapsody/RealNetworks no longer support certain music files purchased before July 2008. This means that everything you've purchased from Rhapsody or RealNetworks Music Store prior to July 2008 in a .rax format needs to be burned to an audio CD. Once you take this small step, you can continue to play them on your audio CD or rip them to any format you desire and play them on your PC.
If you have any further questions about RealPlayer Music Store tracks, please contact Rhapsody Customer Support.

Yes, I tried Rhapsody support yesterday and basically, they told me I'm ripped off.
After further search, before I contacted them, I tried to get realplayer to burn the rax files to cd but unfortunately, it can't burn what it won't import into its library or playlist. I'm familiar with DRM files but I was under the assumption that realplayer/rhapsody created these files "for" realplayer, being as I bought them through their own store. Earlier versions of realplayer played them so they've essentially restricted playback from the very customers that paid for the privilege. It's bad business that they don't support music that they sold to unsuspecting customers with no alternate recourse.0
