Is everything I see in realplayer safe?

Hello, I'm about to format my grandfathers pc to clean it up and make it faster, I don't know realplayer so well so I wanted to ask, I see a lot of videos and photos saved on the downloaded program of real player, if I perform format on the pc, is everything safe or do I need to worry about downloading everything thats on realplayer onto an external hard drive?

  All files that show up in RealPlayer are actually files stored in the PC's hard disk. RealPlayer is a media player that shows videos, music and photos stored on the PC's hard drive. The best thing is for you to do is to backup the files before you format your grandfather's PC. Once you have backed up the media files, you can format the hard disk and transfer them over to newly formatted drive.
