Uninstall and reinstall RealTimes (or RealPlayer) on Windows

How do I completely remove RealTimes (or RealPlayer) from my PC, then reinstall it?

First: Uninstall the application.

Note: If you are a RealPlayer Plus customer, uninstalling will remove Speedbit Video Accelerator from your computer. As we now offer faster video downloads with RealDownloader, we hope this will not be a problem.

Windows 8/8.1

1. Make sure your applications are completely closed.
2. To begin, access the Start menu by pressing the Windows key or by hovering the cursor in the bottom left of the screen.
3. Locate RealTimes or RealPlayer to uninstall and right-click on the icon. A checkmark will appear in the right corner to indicate an application has been selected. Click Uninstall on the toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen.
4. The Programs and Features window will open. Make sure the correct application is highlighted, then click Uninstall.
5. The Uninstall dialog appears, showing checkbox choices of components that are available for uninstall.
6. Uninstall all the components.

Caution: Before you delete your Library, please be aware that deleting it will not delete your music files, but you will have to recreate all your playlists.

Windows 7 or lower

1. Make sure the application is closed.
2. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. (In Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features).
3. Select RealTimes, or RealPlayer and click the Change/Remove or Uninstall button.

Change/Remove RealPlayer

4. The Uninstall dialog appears, showing check box choices of components that are available for uninstall.
5. Uninstall all the components.

Caution: Before you delete your Library, please be aware that deleting it will not delete your music files, but you will have to recreate all your playlists.

If you do not see RealTimes, or RealPlayer in Control Panel > Programs and Features, it means that the application was not installed properly. You will need to over-install and then uninstall.

To over-install, go to www.real.com and download and install the latest version. Then, follow the instructions above to uninstall.

Next: Delete the RealTimes and RealPlayer application folders.

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Go to C:\ or Local Disk (C:\).
3. Go to the Program Files folder.
4. Go to the Real folder.
5. If you have a 32-bit operating system, delete the RealPlayer folder:
c:\program files\real\RealPlayer
If you have a 64-bit operating system, delete the RealPlayer folder:
c:\program files x 86\real\RealPlayer
6. Go back to the Program Files folder.
7. Go to the Common Files folder.
8. For RealPlayer 16 or older versions: Delete the Real folder c:\program files\common files\real\ (or c:\program files x86\common files\real\ if you have a 64-bit OS).

If you are not able to delete folders because "a folder or file in it is open in another program," follow these steps:

1. Open Task Manager (right-click anywhere in the bottom bar of your screen, and select Start Task Manager) and select the Processes tab.
2. End any of the following processes that are still visible.
   - downloader2.exe *32
   - realplay.exe *32
   - realsched.exe *32
   - recordingmanager.exe
   - rpdsvc.exe *32
   - RealPlayerUpdateSvc.exe *32
   - rpsystray.exe
3. Restart your computer and delete the folders.

If for any reason the above instructions do not completely uninstall the software, open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Real\RealPlayer\RPDS and double-click uninst.exe to uninstall RealPlayer Cloud. If you don't see this folder in Program Files, you will need to reinstall the software first.

Finally: Reinstall the application.
