Uninstall and reinstall RealPlayer (Windows)

How do I completely remove RealPlayer from my PC, then reinstall it?

First: Uninstall the RealPlayer.

Note: If you are a RealPlayer Plus customer, uninstalling will remove Speedbit Video Accelerator from your computer. As we now offer faster video downloads with RealDownloader, we hope this will not be a problem.

Windows 8/8.1

1. Make sure RealPlayer is closed.
2. To begin, access the Start menu by pressing the Windows key or by hovering the cursor in the bottom left of the screen.
3. Locate RealPlayer to uninstall and right-click on the icon. A checkmark will appear in the right corner to indicate an application has been selected. Click Uninstall on the toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen.
4. The Programs and Features window will open. Make sure the correct application is highlighted, then click Uninstall.
5. The Uninstallation of RealPlayer dialog appears, showing checkbox choices of components that are available for uninstall.
6. Uninstall all the components.

Caution: Before you delete your Library, please be aware that deleting it will not delete your music files, but you will have to recreate all your playlists. You can back them up or export them if you like.

Windows 7 or lower

1. Make sure RealPlayer is closed.
2. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. (In Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features).
3. Select RealPlayer and click the Change/Remove or Uninstall button.

4. The Uninstallation of RealPlayer dialog appears, showing check box choices of components that are available for uninstall.
5. Uninstall all the components.

Caution: Before you delete your Library, please be aware that deleting it will not delete your music files, but you will have to recreate all your playlists. You can back them up or export them if you like.

Next: Delete the RealPlayer folders.

To delete the folders for RealPlayer located at:

c:\program files\real\RealPlayer
c:\program files\common files\real\

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Go to C:\ or Local Disk (C:\).
3. Go to the Program Files folder.
4. Go to the Real folder.
5. Delete the RealPlayer folder: c:\program files\real\RealPlayer
6. Go back to the Program Files folder.
7. Go to the Common Files folder.
8. For RealPlayer 16 or older versions: Delete the Real folder: c:\program files\common files\real\

NOTE: If you have a 64-bit operating system, the  RealPlayer folders will be in a different location:

c:\program files x86\real\RealPlayer
c:\program files x86\common files\real\

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Go to C:\ or Local Disk (C:\).
3. Go to the Program Files folder.
4. Go to the Real folder.
5. Delete the RealPlayer folder: c:\program files x 86\real\RealPlayer
6. Go back to the Program Files folder.
7. Go to the Common Files folder.
8. For RealPlayer 16 or older versions: Delete the Real folder: c:\program files x86\common files\real\

 
Finally: Reinstall RealPlayer.

To redownload and reinstall RealPlayer, visit http://www.real.com/, click the Free Download button, and follow the prompts to install the current version of RealPlayer. NOTE: If you are on Windows 7 or higher, you will be prompted to install RealPlayer Cloud, the newest version of RealPlayer. If you are on Windows XP or Vista, you will be prompted to install RealPlayer 16.

RealPlayer Plus Customers
The Free Download button will download and install the free version of RealPlayer onto your machine. You will then need to sign in to your premium account to unlock the Plus features. If you previously had RealPlayer 16 and are now installing RealPlayer Cloud, you can continue to access your Plus features by signing in (there is no charge for upgrading to RealPlayer Cloud).
