'You do not have Administrator access' error
Why do I get a 'You do not have Administrator access' error when installing RealTimes (or RealPlayer)?
When installing, you may get this error message:
"You currently do not have Administrator access to the Windows registry. Please see your System Administrator to install RealTimes."
What does this mean? If your PC has multiple users (for example, if everyone in your household logs into their own account when using the computer), not all user accounts (or "profiles") will have permission to install new software on the computer. Only an account with administrative rights will be able to install programs. This is how Windows accounts work; RealNetworks has no control over these permissions.
Typically, the person who first set up the computer will have an account with administrative rights, so try to have that person install RealTimes through their account.
What if the administrator has problems installing RealTimes? Try re-setting your Windows account with administrative rights, creating a new account with administrative rights, or turning off the guest account.
Solution 1: Set your Windows account to have Administrative rights.
You must first log into an Administrative account to change the rights for a Windows account.
1. Click the Windows Start button in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Choose User Accounts.
4. Select your account.
5. Under Pick a task... click Change an account.
6. Set your user account to Administrator.
7. Restart the computer and install RealTimes.
Solution 2: Create a new administrator account.
1. Click the Windows Start button in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Choose User Accounts.
4. Under Pick a task... click Create a new account.
5. Set the user to Administrator.
6. Log into the new account and install RealTimes.
Solution 3: Turn off the Guest Account.
1. Click the Windows Start button in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Choose User Accounts.
4. Under or pick an account to change, select Guest.
5. Select Turn Off the Guest Account.
