'Software Update Required' to play video, but no update found
When I try to play a video in RealPlayer, I get a message that says "Software Update Required" but then RealPlayer searches and tells me no update is available. How can I watch my video?
These messages will generally appear if you are trying to play a file that is either an unsupported format or is using a codec (compression/decompression system) that RealPlayer doesn't recognize. RealPlayer will first look for the necessary codec in AutoUpdate, and if it doesn't find it, then you will see the message "There is no software update available from Real to support this content."
The following answer has links to several common codecs, all of which are free to install: Why do I receive an 'Unsupported file type' error message in RealPlayer?
If you have a paid subscription to RealTimes, another solution is to upload the video to your RealCloud storage. The RealCloud service should automatically convert the video into a format that is playable on your PC or other device if you initiate the playback from your RealCloud.
