'Missing Plug-in' errors (Windows)
Why do I get "Missing Plug-in" errors with RealPlayer?
If you receive a "Missing plug-in" error message in RealPlayer when you try to play music or video on the Internet, it means the clip you are trying to play uses a format that is not automatically installed with RealPlayer. "Missing plug-in" can also mean that the clip was not created or set up correctly. Manually installing the RealPlayer plug-in software, removing and reinstalling RealPlayer or contacting the Webmaster of the site where the error occurs will usually resolve the problem.
Solution 1: Manually update RealPlayer.
Check to see if RealPlayer has plug-in software that will play the file.
1. In RealPlayer, click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left corner and select Check for Update.
2. In the AutoUpdate window, select any applicable plug-ins.
3. Click Drivers and select any applicable items.
4. Click Install. RealPlayer downloads and installs the software.
Check the list of file types that RealPlayer can play; there may not be a plug-in for the file type you are trying to play.
Solution 2: Download additional codecs.
Codecs will enable RealPlayer to play additional file types. For instructions on downloading free codecs, click here.
Solution 3: Uninstall and reinstall RealPlayer.
Corrupted installations may cause RealPlayer to fail to recognize its plug-ins. Removing RealPlayer and reinstalling it may resolve this problem.
