Uploading to Cloud takes a long time
When I upload a video to the Cloud, why does it take so long for the upload to complete?
Upload speeds can vary greatly depending on your Internet connection speed and the size of the file.
For example:
- A 5-minute, 30 MB video uploaded using a broadband connection (1-5 Mbps upload speed) can take between 30 seconds to 3 minutes to upload.
- A 2-hour, 1 GB movie uploaded using a broadband connection can take about 20 minutes with a 5Mbps upload speed or 1.5 hours with 1 Mbps upload speed.
- A 2-hour, 4 GB HD movie uploaded using a broadband connection can take about 1 hour with a 5Mbps upload speed or 5-6 hours with 1 Mbps upload speed.
- A device using a 3G connection can take about twice as long to upload content as the 1Mbps speeds quoted above.
High-quality device camera captures: A 1-minute high-quality camera capture on a mobile phone is 130MB--so that would take about 3 minutes to upload on a 5Mbps speed with a Wi-Fi connection. Decreasing the quality from 1080p to 480p can significantly reduce upload times and improve casting playback.
To check the size of your file, open RealTimes and select the List view; this will display each file's size and format, even if it is just a locally stored file.
